What information do we collect?

Personal information is collected from you when you purchase a membership, when placing an order on the site you may be asked to enter your:

  • Name
  • Address
  • Email address
  • Location 
  • A password
  • PayPal details or Credit Card details (processed by PayPal and Stripe respectively)
What do we use your information for?

The information we collect from is required to process your transaction and send you a confirmation of your order. Your information will not be sold, exchanged, transferred, or given to any other company for any reason without your consent, other than for the express purpose of delivering the purchased product or service requested. Your order will be processed via Memberpress and the payment will be handled by Stripe or PayPal, depending on which payment method you choose. These companies have Privacy Policies independent of this one.

To send periodic emails

The email address you provide for order processing, will be used to send you information and updates regarding your order. 

Registering to comment

When commenting on blog posts you are required to enter your name and email address. This is to prevent spam comments and ensure users have a good experience on the site.

How do we protect your information?

We implement a variety of security measures to maintain the safety of your personal information when you purchase a membership or enter, submit, or access your personal information. We use a secure server and secure the website, both frequently receive software updates to ensure a high level of security. All supplied sensitive/credit information is transmitted via Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology to our payment gateway providers. After a transaction has processed, your private information (name, address, e-mail address, credit card details) will be stored on our servers for 1 week when it be automatically deleted. It is stored for one week to ensure the payment service can process the transition successfully. 

The e-mail address provided will then be used as a method of contact to inform you about the status of your membership, communicate any changes to your membership or send renewal reminders. Your email address and emails can be removed from our servers upon request via [email protected].

Data Request

You can request to see what data we hold and anonymise it by going to https://austriantrails.com/data-access-request.

You can request to have your data erased upon request via [email protected]. Please state the email address linked to your data as this will make the request easier to fulfil.

Do we use cookies?

Yes (cookies are small files that a site or its service provider transfers to your computers hard drive through your web browser (if you allow) that enables the sites or service providers systems to recognize your browser and capture and remember certain information. We use cookies to help us remember and process the items in your shopping cart, plus to help us understand and save your preferences for future visits. Cookies are also used to help us serve relevant adverts to you where applicable.

Do we disclose any information to outside parties?

We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer to outside parties your personally identifiable information. We may also release your information when we believe release is appropriate to comply with the law, enforce our site policies, or protect ours or others rights, property, or safety. However, non-personally identifiable visitor information may be provided to other parties for marketing, advertising, or other uses.

Uploading and sharing

Part of our site enables you to upload GPX files to our site, these are safely stored on our server. These aren't accessible by logged in users or people browsing the site, unless you intentionally share a link to it. By sharing a GPX file you fully acknowledge this file contains location information and can be used for malicious intent, exercise caution when creating routes or sharing routes with people. We do not edit these files and will contain any heart rate or pace data if recoded with a device that collects such information.

Occasionally we may use routes saved to our website for marketing purposes, these will have heart rate or pace data removed and edited if a residential address can be identified by the beginning or the end of the route.

Third Party Applications
1. Facebook conversion pixels

We use the “Custom Audience pixel” of Facebook Inc., 1601 S. California Ave, Palo Alto, CA 94304, USA (“Facebook”) on our website. With its help, we can keep track of what users do after they see or click on a Facebook advertisement. This enables us to monitor the effectiveness of Facebook ads for purposes of statistics and market research. Data collected in this way is anonymous to us, which means we cannot see the personal data of individual users. However, this data is saved and processed by Facebook. Facebook can connect this data with your Facebook account and use it for its own advertising purposes, in accordance with Facebook’s Data Policy which can be found at https://www.facebook.com/about/privacy/. You can allow Facebook and its partners to place ads on and outside of Facebook. A cookie can also be saved on your device for these purposes.

2. Google Analytics

Our website uses Google Analytics, a web analysis service of Google, Inc., 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043 USA, www.google.com (“Google Analytics” or “Google”). Google Analytics employs cookies that are stored to your computer in order to facilitate an analysis of your use of the site. The information generated by these cookies, such as time, place and frequency of your visits to our site, including your IP address, is transmitted to Google’s location in the US and stored there.

Google uses this information to analyze your use of our site, to compile reports for us on internet activity and to provide other services relating to our website.

Google may also transfer this information to third parties where required to do so by law or where such third parties process this data on Google’s behalf. Google states that it will never associate your IP address with other data held by Google. You can prevent cookies from being installed by adjusting the settings on your browser software accordingly as noted elsewhere in this Privacy Policy. You should be aware, however, that by doing so you may not be able to make full use of all the functions of our website.

Google Analytics also offers a deactivation add-on for most current browsers that provides you with more control over what data Google can collect on websites you access. The add-on tells the JavaScript (ga.js) used by Google Analytics not to transmit any information about website visits to Google Analytics. However, the browser deactivation add-on offered by Google Analytics does not prevent information from being transmitted to us or to other web analysis services we may engage.

Google Analytics also uses electronic images known as web beacons (sometimes called single pixel gifs) and are used along with cookies to compile aggregated statistics to analyze how our site is used.

3. Google Tag Manager (GTM)

Google Tag Manager (GTM) is a tag management system to manage JavaScript and HTML tags used for tracking and analytics on websites. Tags are small code elements that, among other things, are used to measure traffic and visitor behaviour: to understand the effect of online advertising and social channels; to set up remarketing and orientation towards target groups; and to test and optimize websites. GTM makes it easier for us to integrate and manage our tags. We use GTM on our website to include the following tracking tools (as in described in detail this Section 12):

  • Google Analytics
  • Google AdWords
  • Facebook Conversion Pixel

GDPR Compliance

To comply with the new GDPR laws changes were made the website. You will now be prompted whether you wish to retain your email and name when commenting, if you choose yes, a cookie will be stored on your computer to identify yourself next time you comment. If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time by clicking here. Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
